The Noreen Young Bursary Dinner is an annual fundraising event that provides scholarships to students in Mississippi Mills and Carleton Place who are pursuing post-secondary studies in the arts. Also, each year the event honours a local resident for a distinguished career in the arts and for having demonstrated a generosity of spirit within the community.
The dinner has raised over $250,000 since it was founded in 1995. This money has directly benefited young artists in Mississippi Mills and Carleton Place.
The dinner features entertainment by a range of performers (sometimes puppets!), a presentation about the honoured local resident, and a silent auction. The whole event is extremely popular with and strongly supported by the local community--tickets sell out far in advance.
Noreen encourages local residents to support the Bursary Dinner. Donations of time, money, or in-kind goods or services to this valuable annual event helps to foster a vibrant local community of arts and culture.
